Land O' Lakes was once a rural, citrus farming community, but with its numerous lakes and nature preserves it has become a beautiful place for those who come to vacation.  Land O' Lakes did not receive its name until 1949. The stories of how this charming community received its name varies.  Some say it was named at a local 'name-the-place' contest after the famous butter, while others claim it was named Land O' Lakes after its two thousand people and two thousand lakes. But either way Land O’ Lakes is a perfect name for this charming community.  Land O' Lakes has remained an unincorporated community to this day.
